Quick Ramp Length Guide

Enter your rise height (in inches) below to estimate recommended ramp lengths based on ADA and common incline ratios.

How to use: Measure the vertical rise (e.g., porch height in inches). Recommended lengths:

  • ADA Compliant (1:12 slope – gentlest, safest): Rise × 12 = Ramp length in inches (divide by 12 for feet)
  • Moderate (1:8 slope): Rise × 8
  • Steeper (1:6 slope): Rise × 6 (with assistance)

Example: 24" rise → ADA needs 288" (24 ft) ramp

Recommended Incline Ratios

Degree Incline Slope Ratio Suggested Usage
4.8° 1:12 Guidelines set by the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA) – safest for independent use
1:8 Optimized for self-reliant wheelchair users and helpers
10° 1:6 Great for manual wheelchairs with attendant support, or power chairs/scooters
12° 1:4 Ideal for power wheelchairs/scooters or manual chairs with strong assistance
15° 1:3 For loading/unloading unoccupied chairs in tight spaces only
